Hey Nerds,
It’s Labor Day, the holiday where America honors workers by making retail employees run a mattress sale while the rest of us stand around a grill pretending we know what temperature chicken becomes edible. I contributed to the national celebration by putting one load of laundry in the washer and immediately deciding I’ve earned the afternoon off. It’s still in there.
Tomorrow’s problem. Today we celebrate labor by avoiding it, which means I’m finally observing a holiday correctly.
IN THIS ISSUE:
Eleven nods, no more Spider-Noir
Nintendo books us twice
Dracula arrives with homework
...and more
ELEVEN EMMY NODS. ZERO MORE SPIDER-NOIR.
Prime Video has canceled Spider-Noir after one season. The Nicolas Cage series picked up 11 Emmy nominations, more than any other Prime series this year, but that hasn’t bought Ben Reilly another case. The show remains available in both color and black-and-white.
Amazon will deliver a mattress, a kayak, and 200 plastic forks to my door by Tuesday. A second season of its most Emmy-nominated show this year? Sorry, item unavailable.
NINTENDO HAS BOOKED TWO MORNINGS OF MY NONSENSE
Nintendo has announced a roughly 30-minute Legend of Zelda 40th-anniversary Direct for September 8 and a roughly 45-minute general Direct for September 9. Both start at 10 a.m. Eastern. The second broadcast will be followed by a Nintendo Treehouse: Live presentation, with gameplay from selected featured titles.
Two mornings of Nintendo news. I can finally block off back-to-back meetings without technically lying. If anyone asks, I’m unavailable from 10 to 11 because I’m “in a presentation.” Camera off. Notebook open. Very serious face while Nintendo announces a cartoon plumber.
SILO BOOKS ITS FINAL SEASON UNDERGROUND
Silo gets to finish its story: Apple TV has set July 9, 2027 for the fourth and final season and released a sneak peek after September 4’s season-three finale. Rebecca Ferguson returns as Juliette Nichols in Graham Yost’s adaptation of Hugh Howey’s novels, about 10,000 people living underground.
The new footage spoils season three, so finish that first.
10,000 people have to coexist underground. I shared one fridge with two roommates and started writing my initials on individual eggs. In permanent marker. Then I accused somebody of stealing them before discovering I’d labeled his carton. They’d put me outside before lunch.
DRACULA WOULD LIKE AN ENTIRE SHELF
Preorders are open for Hammer’s seven-disc Dracula collector’s edition, built around the 1958 Christopher Lee film. The 4K restoration recovers long-missing footage, and the set includes five versions of the movie, an editor’s workprint among them, plus a 200-page book. UK release is October 26; the U.S. gets Horror of Dracula October 27. Hammer lists the movie’s running time as 82 minutes.
Seven discs for an 82-minute movie? At some point this stops being a Blu-ray set and becomes a continuing-education course. Naturally, I want it.
Give me three weeks and I’ll be cornering somebody at a party to explain why Disc Five contains the important version of Dracula. That person will have asked where the bathroom is.
LIGHTNING ROUND OF THINGS THAT ALSO HAPPENED
Alpha Gang has a new first look at Cate Blanchett’s alien invaders, disguised as 1950s bikers and derailed by human emotions. We might survive this invasion because somebody in a diner writes their number on a napkin.
Thank You Bus Driver is Double Fine’s new PC game where thank-yous add time and rulebreakers can be thrown off the bus. Finally, public transit with consequences.
Image’s first Whatnot drop lands September 9 at 6 p.m. Eastern, offering a $40 Spawn ’77 #1 cover by Todd McFarlane homaging his Amazing Spider-Man #300. Todd is paying tribute to Todd. I’ve done that too, but the framed selfie made guests uncomfortable.
Full Clearing Another World under a Goddess with Zero Believers premieres October 11 in Japan. The hero joins a goddess with no followers. Even my dead YouTube channel had three, and one was me.

The bowl leaks. I’ve renamed it a colander and doubled the price. This is the closest I’ve come to understanding business.
